Building Better Vision with Our Vision Therapy Center in Denver, NC

Sightwork is proud to provide the most developed and specialized vision therapy in the region, personalized to fit any need and patients of all ages. We work with individuals with various visual needs including reading delays, amblyopia, poor visual tracking, visual delays for children on the spectrum, visual processing delays, and more.

Each patient we see receives an individualized plan of action which can range from school recommendations, occupational therapy recommendations, and home vision therapy, to different lengths of in-house vision therapy. We work very closely with all medical disciplines because we feel that a multi-disciplinary approach is crucial to success. Ultimately, vision therapy helps the brain and eyes to communicate seamlessly, which improves overall vision and everyday function.

Welcome to Sightwork Vision Therapy Center

At Sightwork — a center dedicated entirely to restorative vision therapy — our experts deeply understand how eyes work with the rest of the body, and our therapies put that knowledge to practical use. Utilizing a variety of techniques including computer programs, prisms, hands-on activities, and small but powerful lifestyle changes, we can make meaningful improvements.

Vision therapy is an individualized treatment program designed to improve or correct dysfunctions of the visual system. Sometimes described as “physical therapy for the eyes,” vision therapy addresses the entire visual system, which includes the eyes, brain, and body. The goal of vision therapy is to train an individual’s brain to use the eyes to receive information effectively, understand it quickly, and react appropriately.

Vision is More Than Seeing 20/20

Your Vision is More
Than Seeing 20/20

Most learning comes through our vision — 80%, in fact — but many underestimate how much vision plays a role in nearly everything we do, from how we navigate our bodies to higher level visual processing such as reading comprehension. Vision therapy can manage or recover visual functions and dramatically benefit life skills, especially for patients who may experience some or all of the following:

  • Have difficulty finishing assignments or tasks on time
  • Lose their place while reading
  • Omit or misread words
  • Have blurred, double, or unstable vision
  • Other symptoms

Vision Therapy Services

We always personalize our care to match the patient’s case and age: we’re exceptionally skilled at treating children and know just what adults need. All our vision therapy programs are designed to correct specific deficiencies, which can be caused by stress, trauma, sensorimotor or developmental delays, reduced oculo-motor or tracking skills, and visual processing delays.

Vision therapy sessions include programs designed to enhance the brain’s ability to control eye alignment and eye movements, focusing abilities, and eye teamwork. We have four focus areas for vision therapy at Sightwork:

Oculo-motor Delays or Deficiencies

Not all vision concerns are correctable with only glasses or contacts. Often the root problem runs deeper than the eye being slightly out of focus from nearsighted or farsightedness. By tailoring our therapies, we can help the visual system function more efficiently, ensuring that it will provide the patient comfort, clarity, and proper depth of vision throughout the day. Common diagnoses that are treated through vision therapy are:

Oculo-motor Delays or Deficiencies

Reading & Learning Delays

Vision therapy can better equip a child to reach their full potential in the classroom. If your child is experiencing difficulties with focus, learning, and reading comprehension, there may be an issue with their visual processing: the collective ability to collect visual data, recognize it, group it appropriately for understanding, and relate it to past experiences or knowledge.
Often, children are able to recognize and decode every word on a page, but are unable to see the words come alive in their mind or attach visual meaning to those words — which makes comprehension and retention much more difficult. If your child is struggling with learning or reading at school, a vision therapy evaluation focusing on their behavioral vision may be warranted.

It’s common for children diagnosed with special needs to have vision and processing delays, and they often benefit from vision therapy. These vision delays frequently go undiagnosed, so please bring your child in if they have one of the following:

  • ADD & ADHD
  • Autism
  • Dyslexia
  • Sensory Delays or Disorders
Reading & Learning Delays

Traumatic Brain Injury or Post-Concussion

Concussions and other brain injuries, such as a stroke or trauma from a car crash, can cause lingering symptoms that are likely the result of vision problems. If you or a loved one has had a brain injury, you may have perfectly healthy eyes that are just not properly communicating with your brain: we can develop a vision therapy plan to help you fix the miscommunication.

Traumatic Brain Injury or Post-Concussion

Sports Vision

Vision therapy can benefit athletes seeking to elevate their skill level. Higher visual efficiency skills improve visual motor integration, refine depth perception, and improve reaction time. We’ll design a plan to help them understand how their eyes work with their bodies and how they can optimize their performance via specialized eyewear, hand-eye coordination, visual exercises, and more.

Success Stories

“This experience has been life changing. Seeing my vision improve significantly in just a matter of 8 weeks of therapy has led to a confidence boost as well as brought on a sense of positivity in my attitude overall. Other doctors I had previously visited had let me to believe my eyes couldn’t improve and would continue to deteriorate over time. Sightwork’s vision therapy program has proved all of them wrong.”

This was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Through 6 months of vision therapy, my amazing therapist, Lauren, and doctor, Dr. Farnham, I was given the skills and strength needed to bring my vision to a place it had never been before. This took away my headaches, improved my depth perception, my reading speed went up 5 grade levels, and it helped me navigate vision during my daily life with ease. I don’t have words to describe how grateful l am! My family calls them miracle workers, and I would have to agree.

My daughter is currently in 4th grade and had never read above a 1st grade level. We had worked with her 1 on 1 ourselves, gotten her tutoring, worked with her teachers, and were in the process of trying see if she had dyslexia. Nothing seemed to work. I took her to the eye dr for something else and they discovered she had accommodative insufficiency, or something like that, and we were told she needed eye therapy. I almost cried bc I was so happy to finally have answers as to why my very bright daughter could not read. Fast forward to now…we are about 1/3 of the way thru therapy and we have seen so much improvement! Even her teachers have remarked on how much she has improved. Her confidence as well as her abilities… I wish there was more awareness of this problem since it was the first I had ever heard of it, and never considered it could be something so “simple”.Now as for my review of the place itself…it’s gorgeous. Everything is set up so well, very clean, and the staff is SOOO friendly and accommodating. We will miss Ashley! But I know we are in good hands. Well worth every penny. Thanks so much!

I found Sightwork after experiencing a brain injury in a car accident. When I started therapy, I was unable to drive, go to stores, use screens, or do much of anything. I was really struggling with my vision due to the brain injury. Everybody at Sightwork was so friendly, patient, and honest about the fact that results would take some time and effort on my part. What I found is that by committing myself to doing the exercises as many days of each week that they suggested I do them and pushing through some of the discomfort I experienced (some discomfort is to be expected in the process), that results did come and over the six months of therapy I regained my ability to drive, I can now go out more, and I’m getting my life back as it was before the accident. I highly recommend Sightwork to anybody who needs them. If you do the work, you will definitely see results. Thank you Cara and Dr. Farnham!
